Albany Netball Association young stars rub shoulders with WA Netball League premiers Western Roar

Some of Albany Netball Association’s budding young stars rubbed shoulders with WA’s best athletes after WA Netball League premiers Western Roar visited the city at the weekend. The Roar’s visit aimed at nurturing local talent through coaching and training programs and fostering connections between elite athletes and development squads at a grassroots level. Their experienced coaching staff delivered an exclusive training session at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre on Saturday before combining with Albany’s under-20 squad for an exhibition match on Sunday. The Roar then conducted a skills development session for ANA’s under-14 and under-16 sides on Sunday. Western Roar coaches led targeted training sessions in shooting, centre court play, and circle defence giving valuable insight to Albany development squad coaches. ANA president Trish Hines welcomed the Roar’s visit and said their coaches and players gained invaluable experience from the weekend. “Local athletes gained valuable insights into high-performance training techniques. . . and strengthened camaraderie among participants and provided a platform for informal mentorship,” she said. “The exhibition game showcased the skills honed during the weekend, providing a thrilling spectacle for those in attendance. “This collaborative weekend highlighted Western Roar’s commitment to developing grassroots talent while fostering a passion for netball in regional communities. “Both athletes and coaches benefited from the high-calibre expertise on offer, making the event a memorable success for Albany’s netball enthusiasts.” The clinic was made possible by Darrell Panizza from WFI Insurance.
