Albany Motocross Club hosts some of State’s top talent in successful MX Open as local riders perform well

Albany Motocross Club played host to the Albany MX Open over the long weekend at Albany Motorsport Park, with riders from clubs around WA competing for titles across two days of competition. Riders hailed from all over the Great Southern and South West regions, and a mix of clubs got the chance to see their riders on the podium at the end of the competition with juniors riding on Saturday, March 1, and seniors on the Sunday. AMC president Matt Pearce said the weekend had a great turnout and was a crucial opportunity for local riders to brush elbows with some top State talent. “Everything went to plan, we had a great showing with 145 riders over the weekend and no major injuries, which is always good,” he said. “We had five or six Albany riders, and a fair few more from surrounding clubs, from Denmark and Cranbrook and our neighbouring ones. “It’s still a fairly new track, but we’re holding a State round two months from now so there’s also that draw to get down here and ride the track so it’s familiar. “We had some top State riders make the trip down, which is great for the profile of the track and the club, and of course great for our local competitors as well. “There was a big crowd turnout and we’re keen to bring it back bigger next year and see the event grow.” In the junior open categories, Linkon Hall took out the six to nine year old category on 100 points, 18 ahead of second placer Carter Mead. Nate Forwood was the winner for the seven to 10-year-olds, and James Marrs took home the trophy for the nine to 12-year-olds, both also on 100 points. Deegan Fort finished on 88 to claim victory in the 12-16 year-old category, with Ryley Fiford taking the win for the 13-16 year-olds on 94, and Levi Farr just clinched the win in the over 125cc 13-16s. Farr also came out to win the MX3 competition on Sunday nine points ahead of Southern Capes teammate Jacob Thompson. On Sunday the women’s race was taken out by Bunbury rider Amba Boland with 72 points, followed closely by Victoria Riddiough on 69. Eddy Pajewski won the veterans race, and Luke Gaisford took the ATV title on 105, with Ethan Mackie claiming the Clubman title and Sonny Pellicano taking out MX2 with 70 points. The MX1 and Shootout competitions both went to Patrick Butler.
