AFL 2024: Extra grand final tickets allocated to club members
Fans of competing teams will receive 1000 more tickets to this year’s grand final under changes announced by the AFL on Tuesday.
The league will expand the ticket allocation for competing club members from 34,000 to 35,000 after tickets were removed from the AFL corporate pool.
More than 25 per cent of grand final tickets are distributed to corporate and premium hospitality packages.
The AFL last adjusted the ticket allocation for competing club members in 2017 when it raised the number per team from 15,000 to 17,000.
AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said the change would “reward those who are most dedicated to our game”.
“Our season so far has been nothing short of phenomenal, with more than 5.5 million fans attending, 1.2 million members, along with the tens of millions who have watched the broadcast – remarkable numbers and a testament to all the supporters and members barracking for their clubs,” Dillon said.
“The big and passionate membership bases of our clubs are the heartbeat of a match day and the commitment of the AFL is to ensure we can get the two competing club members both for this year and beyond more tickets in order to reward those who are most dedicated to our game and our clubs.
“The Toyota AFL grand final is one of the biggest and best sporting events in the world and the fortunate reality is we could sell out the 100,000-seat MCG four times over, so we need to continue to find the balance.
“For the ticketing release in September we will always prioritise our competing club members, with the biggest share of tickets available to those two competing clubs, and this year more are available to those members.”
The AFL confirmed finals ticketing information would be communicated to club members shortly.
The fixture for round 24, which could feature several crucial games that determine teams’ finals chances, will not be released until the end of round 21 in more than a fortnight.
