Mitsubishi has given us another sneak peak at one of its upcoming electric SUVs, this time at the launch event for the new Outlander.

During Mitsubishi’s Outlander PHEV presentation the silhouette of a yet unreleased model was projected onto the big screen with the captions “100% electric C SUV” and “next year”.

The C likely refers to C-segment, a term denoting mid-sized vehicles, so the car in question shapes up as a medium electric SUV.

Little can be gleamed from the projected silhouette, although the mystery model looks like it could be a badge engineered version of the Renault Scenic E-Tech, with a boxy appearance and right-angle front light signature.

Cabin dimensions are conducive to two rows of seating, which aligns with Mitsubishi’s future product plan.

The brief appearance was captured by Japanese publication bestcarweb.

Mitsubishi has previously previewed a range of upcoming models, several of which are expected to land in Australia.

Last year, Mitsubishi teased 16 models including nine electrified models (four BEVs), that it plans to launch globally over the next five years.

Fast forward to this May and Mitsubishi’s North American division released a single teaser image that showed a lineup of seven new vehicles.

The four planned EVs will consist of a pickup ute, two Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi ‘Alliance’ models, and a two-row SUV.

So, the car teased by Mitsubishi this week will either be a two-row in-house SUV, a restyled Renault, or a restyled Nissan.

Of those options, it appears likely that Mitsubishi’s upcoming electric SUV will be based on the new Renault Scenic E-Tech, which shares very similar proportions.

Reborn this year, the Renault Scenic offers a choice of two electric motors: one with 125kW of power and 280Nm of torque, the other with 160kW and 300Nm. The claimed 0-100km/h times for each are 9.3 seconds and 8.4 seconds, respectively.

The base 60kWh battery offers 420km of range on the WLTP test cycle, while the larger 87kWh battery has 620km of range.

The alliance between Mitsubishi and Renault has already spawned the Captur-based ASX and Clio-based Colt, which are both built by Renault and sold in Europe.
