The MG 4 is currently Australia’s cheapest electric vehicle (EV) with a base price of $32,990 drive-away, but this offer is ending earlier than expected – and MG says it won’t be coming back.

The special nationwide drive-away offer for the Excite 51 will now end on December 31, 2024 instead of January 31, 2025.

MG Motor Australia has also announced the Excite 64 will now be priced at $34,990 drive-away until the end of the year, while the ZS EV now has nationwide drive-away pricing of $36,990 for the Essence and $42,990 for the Long Range.

The company is also offering $8000 factory bonuses on model year 2023 (MY23) Essence 64, Long Range 77 and XPower models, though it’s advising customers to speak to their local MG dealer to confirm the total savings available.

Not only is MG ending the MG 4’s offer early, but it says it doesn’t plan to ever bring back this price.

“MG saw an incredible response to the pricing offers on the MG 4 in October,” said MG Motor Australia chief commercial officer Giles Belcher.

This was a record month for the car, which in October became the best-selling EV in Australia with 1486 sales – becoming the first model to dethrone either of Tesla’s models.

“Our dealerships across the country were able to help Australians switch to EV driving with the MG4. These price offers finish at the end of the year and will never be repeated,” said Mr Belcher.

In September, MG announced it was slashing the base price of the MG 4 51 Excite to $30,990 drive-away until October 31, while rolling out $8000 factory bonuses on model year 2023 (MY23) vehicles and $5000 bonuses on MY24 vehicles.

This sharper base price represented a saving of between $8262 and $10,425, depending on state or territory.

The following month, MG confirmed that from November 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025, the MG 4 51 Excite would be priced from $32,990 drive-away.

Even at this price, the MG 4 still undercuts the next-cheapest EV in Australia. The GWM Ora is usually priced at $35,990 drive-away in Standard Range guise, but until December 8, 2024 it’s priced at $33,990 drive-away.

Below is a breakdown of key specifications for the MG 4 range:

All models feature rear-wheel drive and a single electric motor except for the XPower, which has a dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration.

The Long Range 77 gets 11kW three-phase AC charging capability, with all other models only able to be charged at 6.6kW on AC power.

All models can be charged at up to 140kW using DC power except for the Excite 51, which can only be charged at up to 88kW.
