The BYD Sealion 6 has become Australia’s most affordable plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), eclipsing the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV, as part of a wide range of changes and price cuts for its 2025 model range.

The entry-level Dynamic variant of the Chinese-made mid-sized SUV is now priced from $45,990 before on-road costs, making it $1800 cheaper than the base version of the more compact Japanese-built Eclipse Cross small SUV ($47,790 plus on-road costs).

Pricing for the range-topping Sealion 6 Premium, on the other hand, remains unchanged at $52,990 before on-road costs.

Unlike some of its other models, BYD hasn’t made changes to the Sealion 6’s standard specifications for the 2025 model year (MY25). Only the Azure Blue exterior paint colour has been axed.

CarExpert understands model year 2025 vehicles were due here in March, however industrial action at Australian ports could affect this timing.

Although the BYD Sealion 6 only went on sale in Australia in mid-2024, it became Australia’s top-selling PHEV last year. A total of 6198 examples were delivered, narrowly outselling the Outlander PHEV (6126 sales).

The Sealion 6 also cracked the top 20 best-selling vehicles list for the first time in December 2024. A total of 1122 examples were delivered in the month, placing it 18th overall – ahead of established models like the Mazda BT-50 (1101 sales) and Hyundai i30 (1066 sales).

Pricing

At under $46,000 excluding statutory costs, the entry point to the Sealion 6 is now $3000 cheaper than before.
