Wild weather hits Tammin

A South Tammin farm seemed among the worst hit by last weekend's heavy rains.

Kylagh Cattle Company director Jill Rogers said rainfall of more than a metre had caused a rush of water through their feedlot.

"We received 125mm in an hour, but the cattle were able to get out of the way of the water rush," she said.

"The avalanche shifted one-tonne concrete bunks out of the ground, it was that severe."

She said most of the water was captured in the 15 million litre effluent dam on the property.

"And thankfully we were able to get the cattle back into the feedlot and use the pens again in under two hours," she said.

Large areas of canola on the property and some of the wheat crops had been hit by the associated hail, particularly around the feedlot, Mrs Rogers said.

"It appears the canola has been 100 per cent wiped out by the hail in some areas, but we are still assessing the impact on the remaining crops," she said.
