Farmers out in force across city to promote agriculture

Farmers are proudly wearing green shirts throughout Hay Street today, attempting to better connect country-based agriculture to the metropolis.

Green Shirts Movement WA members from throughout WA have descended on the Perth city centre precinct this morning to display wool, grain and other produce.

Beverley grain grower Alan Sattler, the Green Shirts spokesman, is spearheading the event to promote agriculture to the State’s city-based population.

The Green Shirts were founded in Queensland last year as a grass-roots group in response to proposed changes to the state’s vegetation laws.

The movement quickly spread across the borders to WA after last July’s robust live export meeting in Katanning.

Mr Sattler called for Perth residents to meet with the Green Shirts members at Hay Street, saying they would be there to 2pm.
