Dovey takes the reins at Great Southern grower group

A Great Southern grower organisation is ushering in a new era, following the departure of boss Christine Kershaw.

Stirling to Coast Farmers announced on Tuesday that the Albany-based group’s research and development officer Nathan Dovey will replace Dr Kershaw in the chief executive role.

Mr Dovey, raised in the Albany region, boasts past experience with research group Agrisearch — now Eurofins Australia — and independent chemical company 4Farmers.

Stirling to Coast chairman Ken lauded Mr Dovey’s appointment and said the incoming chief executive’s research and development skills would prove beneficial in the top job.

“Nathan’s local experience and knowledge will be critical,” Mr Drummond said.

“Local (research and development) is critical to keeping our members in touch with industry trends and environmental challenges.”

Dr Kershaw is scheduled to assume the chief executive post at WA Producers’ Co-operative.

WAPC, which launched in February, is poised to help Great Southern farmers capitalise on sheepmeat, beef and grain opportunities.

Mr Drummond praised Dr Kershaw for her achievements while at Stirling to Coast.

“The board would also like to acknowledge and thank the previous (chief executive), Dr Christine Kershaw, for her significant contribution to SCF,” he said.

“We have experienced significant growth as an organisation over the past four years largely due to her strong commitment, drive and enthusiasm.

“We all wish her well in her new role as CEO of the newly-established WA Producers’ Co-operative.”
