Wagon reliable and robust
As an agricultural contractor and beef farmer in North East Tasmania, Gerald Davis knows every hour spent harvesting makes a difference to the quality of the silage and the profitability of his business. That’s why he chose Inlon’s Strautmann forage wagon when he wanted to take his business to the next level.
Mr Davis said he’d heard a lot of good things about Strautmann over the years.
“I wanted a reliable and robust loader that would take the grass in well and cut it with precision. Fast and efficient gathering is vital because there’s only a small window before it dries out,” he said.
Mr Davis has 400 beef cows on 800ha but mainly purchased the Strautmann SV CFS 3501 DO forage wagon for his agricultural contracting business. He bought it from Inlon and his local dealer, Shiptons of Quobia, delivered and set it up.
“It’s certainly lived up to my expectations,” Mr Davis said.
“The double-sided blades are quick and easy to change, which is important as I vary chop lengths depending on the job. If it’s green chop to be fed straight to the cows, I need a longer cut than if it’s being stored. The Strautmann is quiet and easily copes with a heavy crop. The hydraulic floor makes the job quicker and one press of a button locks the wheels.”
Before he purchased the Strautmann, Mr Davis wrapped the bales, which is more time consuming and less productive.
“I looked at other models of forage wagon but the Strautmann has a lot more features for the price – much better value for my dollar. It’s really given us a lot more scope with our contracting work and extended our market,” Mr Davis said.
