Milestone for mallefowl centre

Ongerup’s Yongergnow Australian Malleefowl Centre will celebrate its 10th anniversary on April 8.

Country music singer-songwriter and self-declared mallee boy John Williamson is to attend the event.

Williamson was part of Yongergnow’s official opening ceremony and patron of the previous Malleefowl Preservation Group.

Other entertainment on the day will include a performance by Noongar dance group The Deadly Brothers, a special song by Ongerup Primary School students with musician Ross Strahan and entertainment by local singer Michelle Duits.

The Yongergnow Australian Malleefowl Centre is dedicated to the conservation of malleefowl and their habitat.

In partnership with the local community resource centre, the centre’s unique building and its facilities have attracted an increasing number of visitors and have become an inter-regional meeting point for functions and entertainment.

Visitors are welcome to view the centre’s world-class display as well as the endangered malleefowl in natural bush aviaries and the 5ha mMallee sanctuary.

The event is supported by Lotterywest, the Gnowangerup Shire, Green Skills Denmark, South Coast NRM, Healthways, the Ongerup Community Resource Centre and other community groups and businesses.
