Iconic Mundella Farm at Mundijong listed for sale, expected to fetch up to $10m

The founders of one of WA’s best-known dairy brands are selling their farm in a deal expected to net up to $10 million. Mundella Farm, in Mundijong 50km south of Perth, is being sold by Peter and Anne Hector, who established Mundella Foods in 1972 using surplus milk to make yoghurt and cheese. The Hectors sold the award-winning business to China’s Bright Food Group in 2014 for an undisclosed sum. Both now aged in their mid-70s, they are now selling the original 215ha farm — across the road from the food business — to retire. An expressions of interest campaign is being run by Phil Melville, of CBRE, who said there had been a huge amount of interest from a diverse range of buyers for the “blue chip” asset. The property, in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale, is suited to beef production, equine pursuits, land banking and farm tourism, Mr Melville said. Although the Hectors stopped operating Mundella Farm as a dairy in 2016, infrastructure and equipment has remained, offering an opportunity for a niche dairy to once again operate. Infrastructure is good to support the current 300-plus beef cattle on the property. Apart from the fertile red loam soils, high rainfall, the property is close to South Western Highway, and the proposed extension of Tonkin Highway and freight rail realignment. There are two homes on the property. EOIs close on September 30.
